背景Context

“乡村振兴”是过去八年中国新闻里出现频率最高的词组之一，但正因为它太常见，几乎没有人认真问过：《人民日报》具体在讲什么？讲谁？八年下来讲法变了没有？这些问题只能靠把报道一篇篇读完、标好才能回答。"Rural revitalization" is one of the most-used phrases in Chinese news of the past eight years — so common that few have asked what People's Daily actually says under it, about whom, and whether that has changed. Answering required taking the coverage apart report by report.

问题The problem

难点有两层。第一层是工程量：八年的报道要人工筛选、编码、归类，标准一旦松动，后面所有分析都不成立。第二层更难——数据库本身不是新闻。一个能查的库对研究者有价值，对普通读者是零。这个矛盾最后催生了衍生作品。Two layers. First, sheer labour: eight years of reports, screened and coded by hand — one loose coding rule and every downstream finding collapses. Second, and harder: a database is not journalism. A queryable archive is valuable to researchers and worthless to a general reader. That tension is what produced the sequel.

后续What came next

数据库建成后，我们把它重新讲了一遍——面向普通读者的叙事版本，就是Once the database was built, we retold it for a general audience: 《1792次的关注》Harvest: 1,792 Reports。同一批数据，两种产品形态：库和故事该分开做，但底下的事实必须是同一套。后来它拿到了全国二等奖。 — same data, two products. It went on to win a national 2nd Prize.
